I’m proud of myself.
For the last 3 months, I stuck to my plan and published an article a week on Substack. While navigating work, friends, and my own hobbies, I was able to create time to, well, create. The goal was to give myself a writing project that kept me consistent and invested. I have done that. I know myself and had to be accountable for this to work. Create a plan. Announce the plan. Invest $$ into the plan. Onward. At the end of all of this, I was able to write 20k+ words combined on topics I love.
I want to thank all of you who have subscribed. Even if you read only a few posts or just wanted to support me because of who I am, I am honored. I have nothing to offer other than running commentary of topics I care about and you all not only gave me room to do so but wanted to see me succeed.
When I started this Substack, I got a few of you to subscribe before I even published anything. Before my first official post went out on July 1st, I had 25 subscribers who I had sold on a Road Map post about a month and a half earlier. As of writing this, I now have 63 subscribers. I more than doubled from my starting point and while 63 may not seem like a ton to some, it’s a ton to me. You know why? Because I am not an established writer and I focus on niche topics that are nerdy as fuck. That’s growth, baby.
Throughout the months, I’ve used my Substack to promote my vision and talent to authors who I am excited to talk to in the coming months. I now have a catalog to offer up of not only how invested I am in what I do but also how diligent. Opportunities are showing up that I only imagined could happen for me.
So once again, thank you.
I would like to take the time to thank the Substack Ahch-To Baby who is a wonderful writer and who has recommended me within his network. Thank you, Matt!
A few other Substacks I would like to recommend are:
Here are the Top 3 posts of the last 3 Months (according to site analytics). I excluded my Road Map and Giveaway post(s) from this line up.
I think the posts I had fun with were the video game retrospective posts. They allowed me to go back in time and play a game I haven’t touched in years and just explode with thoughts about all that has passed since then.
But the real winner in my mind is the review of the Twisted Metal-show. I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Yes, it’s garbage but it’s entertaining garbage.
I will post in the next couple of days my outline for Oct-Dec and I am thrilled to announce it is geared, ahem, towards Gears of War and in particular, Karen Traviss’ contributions to the series.
Thank you all for a wonderful 3 months and I can’t wait to light up your inboxes every week!
I’m brand new but glad to be here. Thanks for putting in all the hard work to make this great space and introduce me to substack. Im wishing you lots of further success.
Now I’m headed back to Night City.....
