Such an important topic, thank you for writing about it! I'm of the opinion that physical video games will be abandoned by Microsoft and Sony (and eventually even Nintendo) fairly soon. Probably within the next 5-10 years. At that point, it will be up to more niche outlets like LRG and iam8bit, etc. to carry the physical media torch. Game preservation will become even more important at that point because as we've seen with Nintendo's online virtual stores, they are completely okay with abandoning games that can no longer be played unless you own the original hardware.

Very true and I think your prediction is accurate. I think physical games will live on but outsourced.

I'd do that too, but unfortunately PC/Laptop manufacturers decided that CD-rom is no longer needed 😅 Sometimes I miss it so much...

Thankfully there is quite a loud crowd who do not wish for physical copies to go away. I think production will create fewer and maybe come out 6 months after a digital release but I'm pretty OK with that.

Large scale it’s not happening but FanGamer and iam8bit have been putting the work in to get manuals and little bonuses. But they don’t do all the games. :(
